A collection of short stories, mostly from the author's column in the US magazine Cycle Guide in the 60s and 70s. This will appeal to the more mature, thoughtful rider - he talks about stuff that you only really understand if you have been round the block a few times. But if you are that kind of rider, this is a lovely wee book 24 stories and articles. Many of them are about desert racing in California. The last one (about his ride round the US in 2000) seems out of step with the rest, but will be recognisable to anyone that has toured long distance. The others span topics like odd characters he has known, hairy rides taken, and morality tales on the use and benefits of having a bike. Perfect reading for a plane journey, to take on holiday, or for your daily commute. The kind of book you read a story at a time - then spend a while mulling it over and letting your mind wander.
A nice, feelgood book. Old hands will recognize themselves, and their youthful folly :), in many of the chapters. 'Zen and The Art...' it ain't, but I smiled quietly to myself many times, and very much enjoyed reading this.
Get it from the Amazon.com link on www.dongately.com You can also get it from Amazon.co.uk, sometimes used - but new copies are cheaper from the States (last time I looked).
