Some opinions on whether Daytime Lights, high visibility jackets, and the like are good or bad.......

The Lights On or Off Debate

Lots is already written and debated on 'Daytime Headlights'. In the UK it is a long-standing issue pursued by MAG(UK) and BMF, in Europe by FEMA. In fact, proposed legislation was defeated some years ago.

Proposed with the argument 'Obvious innit. Must be right. Course it is.'

Opposed by 'Well, actually, no. It isn't proven, and there are good arguments against. Not to mention personal freedom of choice.'

The debate continues. Here are a couple articles recieved on Visibliity, and on whether it is better to run in daytime with your lights On or Off.....

High Visilibity Automatically Good High Visibility Not Automatically Good High Visibility Bad
Experts support the idea of lively conspicuity. To Glow Or Not To Glow Drivers can't judge distance

No flamewars please, but if you would like to write 200-300 words of considered opinion for or against, email it in and we'll post it here. (No profanity, no rants, editor's decision is final.)

Do I need to say this...... Motorcycle.co.uk passes no opinion on whether you should ride in daylight hours with your lights on or off. Or whether a white helmet is better than a black helmet. Motorcycle.co.uk has no opinion whatsoever. At all. On anything. It is your own considered judgement.
