Engine swopping

99/07/28

The Bike

A small problem has arisen. Mick's arm injury from the Ramsey Sprint means that he cannot tell if or when he will be able to detune the Rotax 604 engine and we are looking at the Autumn at the earliest. The tuning must be done when the engine is new so there is a prospect that I'll miss the window of test-riding opportunity that August presents. Bugger.

I'm prepared to hold out for special engine attention from Sportax and if Mick can't eventually do it c'est la vie. In the meantime, M & C Motorcycles of NW London has offered to lend a 500cc engine (having the same engine mounts as the 604) that we can simply swop later.

It was rather late when we got all the parts together so there is no specific finish date for the bike building. This means that I can help finish the bike building, I guess we'll see if that is a good idea or not...!
