Tea-table survival & Gambia

99/07/17

Round the world motorcycle ride from 1/1/2000 through 60 countries for humanitarian aid and motorcycling!

Well 6 months to go and things are on course for test-riding next month and lift-off in December.

Latest developments include

- Henk Speenwoolde, former Dutch Motocross Champion who run HSR off-road training, said "HSR is sponsoring the Ride because I saw Simon riding today. It was only 80km. He should be more careful and not fly so far."

- Professional motorcycle adventure travel expert Bernd Tesch, sponsoring with experience, happily told me what to expect on my proposed "impossible" route. Never mind, I'll have the super Tesch 4 aluminium boxes which even come with a tea-table!

- Survival training is offered by Major Tony 'Spanner' Manley of the Rifle Volunteers in Exeter (Yamaha 600 Diversion rider) to include making fire, safe water, trapping, shelter, first aid...

- Riders for Health are working out a system whereby RfH donations through the Millennium Ride will go to health delivery by motorcycle in Gambia, West Africa. Individuals, organisations and companies may even be able to sponsor their own motorcycle(s). Imagine a load of tarmac-only riders battling through Saharan dunes on their way to see their 'adoptees' doing great work! I plan to email you from Gambia on the way back hopefully with a Psion 5 if it is still working by then!

- Libyan visas are now easily available at the border say Carlson Wagonlit Travel, who are arranging the first 3 months worth. The only problem is Saudi where support is needed from a company or organisation and the only motorcyclist I know has moved! Can anyone help with a contact? Now, in 11 months there is China...

Thanks for your support, we now have 35 corporate sponsors (listed below) and 45 individuals.

Happy Summer and ride safely

Simon Milward
