Bike moves & Budget

Hello Everyone

According to your sponsorship of the Millennium Ride here is the first Diary update. You'll get about one a month until I leave in December. If you prefer to simply check the website from time to time instead we can take you off the list, or companies may prefer to nominate a different email address. Diary updates will appear on the web page after a short delay but there are already two on there at http://millennium-ride.com/

Ahh you know it feels soooo good. Work has started on the bike! At last all the parts are together and the first thing to make is the rear-wheel cush-drive. Yes, this bike is being built from the bottom up! The last boxes to arrive at Newton Motorcycles in Devon UK were two full of rally parts from UFO-Plast Italy and MD Racing Belgium, and one with 49 litre Tesch aluminium boxes offered by Harley Davidson UK. John says the biggest task ahead is making the machine look like a motorcycle, I think it is to make it Simon-proof. I'm off for some off-road training next week given by KNMV, but I guess this machine will be nothing like my Millennium beast!

Corporate sponsors number 25 of which 10 are for bike related parts. The biggest financial sponsor is Chris and Marty bike cartoon at 3000DM, you'll love it and we'll try to get a link to them. There are about 30 individual sponsors and the first batch of metal badges will be ready at the end of June. Being able to sponsor via the web page is wonderful and some leaflets have been made (thanks Peninsular Services for the colour and Clap Copy for the b+w). Please let me know if you want a few to distribute/copy, it would be really appreciated. The total amount so far raised for MSF and RfH is 1418 Euro.

After x-rays my new English dentist, a motorcyclist, told me the cost of the remaining work had risen to GBP 218! Mum said she'd cover it. The cost of using a Belgian one for a few years...?!

Sadly my girlfriend, Heike, finished with me. Understandable I suppose, she is no 'sit at home and wait' kind of girl who is going places. It was inevitable, since I had made the decision to stay or go in such a situation a year ago.

Anyway I have plenty of trip preparations to make, FEMA is trying to persuade ACEA to come up with an effective diesel tank design to stop dangerous leakage from trucks and we have a new European Parliament to make 'bike aware'. There's no shortage of things to do!

Let's hope for a sunny Summer, ride safely
