The Original Route - as planned before leaving - and nothing like what actually happened.....
Route introduction
The original plan was to cross Africa north to south before going to South America, taking a generally westward direction around the world. However due to African civil unrest and climate considerations in Australia, I changed direction and will head generally eastwards. A January start dictates the route through north Africa. Then if I cannot get a transit visa for Saudi Arabia (in order to take a boat to Iran from the United Arab Emirates) I shall have to take the mountain route via Syria through Turkey to Iran.
Time, visa restrictions or other unforseen circumstances may mean one or more of these countries being bypassed, all of which I really would like to see: Australia, China, Mongolia, Russia, Japan, Alaska (US) and Canada.
