The Frequently Asked Questions:

Site Ethos:

The site is run by Mike.  He first used the internet over 30 years ago, became a daily email user 25 years ago, and has been building web sites since '93.  So he has been around long enough to remember when the Internet was a place full of useful stuff.  Stuff which was there just because somebody thought it was a good idea, and appreciated the ability to make information available.  Back then, if we put something useful up, it was because everybody else did, and we could find and use everybody elses' useful information.

This site is still like that.  Nowadays, with the rise of advertising on the web, it makes a bit of income, which is nice, and enables us to spend time looking after it, developing new features, and paying for its hosting.

But it is still just that 'useful place'.  We don't charge for accessing information.  We just want to make it available.

The Listings, how do they work?

The Listings are all human-moderated. Anybody can suggest a link for inclusion. We check them out, and add them to the listings, sometimes it takes a day or two.

We include entries of interest to the UK (and Eire), though we are happy to add European stuff where it is useful, and links to 'Tours of Outer Mongolia'; hard-to-get Custom parts you will ship to the UK, etc. The only criteria is that it would be useful to the UK market.

Having said that, many links will interest people in other parts. For example, we have links to a lot of stuff about Classic British Bikes. So, for example, if you are a dealer in Classic Triumph Parts in Singapore, we'll be happy to include your site.

Please tell us if you find dead or inappropriate links - things change on the web and we can't check every link every day.

The Community, how does it work?

Its Social Networking, Web2.0.  Sign up, find friends, join groups, all that good Social Networking stuff.

Sign up as an individual, a couple/family, a club, a company.  We have made it generic, a Profile can be any entity you like.  Make a Club Page, add club members photos, say a bit about where you meet and what you do.  Create a Company Profile, great for small specialist businesses.  Or just sign up yourself and your mates, keep in touch using chat and blogs.

This is the area of the site that is getting most development just now, we will be expanding it, adding new features, forums, and the like.  Please let us know what you would like to see.

While anyone can sign up and write whatever they want on their profile, bear in mind we are lurking in there, watching for rubbish, spam, inappropriate content.  We will simply switch off any account which is abusing the system.

Please keep your content reasonably decent.  We are not prudes, but hey, there's kids reading this.

We will not spam.  Ever.

Reciprocal Links:

  • If you have a site that you think our users would like, there's a Suggest a Listing button on every listing page.  Costs nothing for a basic Listings entry.  Listing entries stay there whether or not you link back to us.
  • Links back to us are encouraged, of course. If you run a site and think that linking to a page in our site would be useful to your site visitors, that's great, it helps us both.
  • However, we do not participate in brain-dead reciprocal linking schemes, 2-way, 3-way, or however-many-way you think is clever and will fool the search engines.  Such email goes straight in the bin.

Advertising Opportunities

If you would be interested in advertising with us, we offer various opportunities from Partnering and Section Sponsorship to normal Affiliate Relationships.

Contact us by email in the first instance and we will be happy to explore whatever you have in mind.
