Compulsory Daytime HeadLights On was tried in Australia many years ago and has been repealed after it was shown that during the daytime car drivers and other motorists badly misjudged the distance between themselves and any motorcycle that had its’ headlight/s on.
While the motorists did recognise the presence of the Bikes more often, this misjudging of the distance was seen to provide more danger to motorcycles than the lack or recognition. In most cases it was shown that motorists judged the motorcycle to be twice as far away than they really were and as a result made decisions that seriously endangered the riders.
